WINTERS OF GUSTAVE PAUL FISCHER

Polish Jewish ancestry, the family of fishermen and fishmongers of Danish painter Gustav Fischer Paul lived in Denmark for four generations when it was born July 22, 1860. The artist's father had wanted to become a painter, but he managed to earn a comfortable living when he founded his own business of lacquers and paints. Guided by his father, the young Paul Gustave began painting before the age of 10. Then teenager he attended the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Copenhagen. Fischer began drilling in 1882 with illustrations done for the magazine "Ude og hjemme" it was immediately noticed by the Danish naturalist. The artist captures beautifully the atmosphere of Copenhagen and its inhabitants, and became famous for his series of city scenes.

At first, Fischer worked twilights, the afternoons and gray street scenes where the urban crowd in the rain or snow. After a stay in Paris from 1891 to 1895, his palette became richer and brighter, his brush lighter ... The scenes of sunny beach and swimming appeared ... These works reached their zenith between 1890 and 1910.

Fischer also illustrated books for children and designed many famous posters which shone the influence of his masters: Theophile Steinlein and Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec. Besides Paris, the artist traveled and worked in Germany from 1883 to 1909 and in Italy from 1894 to 1922.

In those years, the painter Laurits Tuxen dominated art Danes, but a major event was to boost awareness Fischer in 1905. The artist manages to take precedence over Laurits Tuxen on dissolution of the union between Sweden and Denmark-Norway, Fischer instead Tuxen was chosen by the Royal Commission to immortalize recognition of independence from Sweden:


The painter died May 1, 1934 Gentofte, Denmark.
